Grumpy Monkey strikes again!

What a fun series! Kids love him, and I get why!

Jim can’t seem to find a reason to celebrate during this festive time, even with all the other animals showing their excitement for the celebrations! He needs help from his friend, Normal, who shows him if you stop looking at all the things “going wrong,” maybe you can see the good all around you.

Such a great message for kids (and adults), in a kid-friendly and hilarious way.

So if our main character in today’s book was grumpy… you know who else will be….?

Pete will also be a Grump Elf on Day 8.

I used black marker to draw a sad face on his lips, and then drew angry eyebrows over his eyebrows.

Here’s a close up!

And of course, have to fold the arms.

Note will say something like:

Welp, I woke up on the wrong side of the bed! And now, I’m grumpy, just like this GRUMPY MONKEY! I wasn’t able to get your craft and worksheets ready, but I hope to get cheerier throughout the day! It’s okay to be grumpy sometimes! Until then, I hope you have a better day than me! Love, Pete.

Then the next part of my plan is to move Pete, erase the frown and here’s the new note!

It shows kids we feel grumpy sometimes, but can get out of it, just like in Grumpy Monkey! It may just take some time. I will do this while my son is at school so when he comes home, Pete is happy again and our crafts are ready!

Day 8 steps:

  1. Draw frown on Elf’s face.

  2. Place him with a note that explains that he is feeling grumpy so no worksheets/crafts right now.

  3. Move him at some point during the day (while kids are at school, nap, etc.) and erase marker and leave new note.

  4. Make your own GRUMPY MONKEY mask. See printable below!

  5. Complete free printables!

Grumpy Monkey masks! Just print out, have kids color the monkey face (however they like), cut out, and adults can help cut out eye holes as well as punch holes through sides (near cheeks) to put string, pipe cleaners, or ribbon through to tie around head.

Here we have a journal page. It is great for kiddos to reflect on emotions and why they have them. Have them draw a picture of when they feel grumpy. Depending on age, they can complete the sentence “I feel grumpy when….” or they can tell their adult and the adult can write what they say. :)

I hope your kiddo’s love this book and activities! I also post a reel on instagram of how it went in my home with my kiddos. Feel free to check it out! My IG link is at the top right of my website. (sometimes takes me a day or two to post).

Stay tuned for Day 9 with  Last Stop of the Reindeer Express by Maudie Powell-Tuck and Karl James Mountford.
