These Pigeon books… never get old! What a clever, fun character for kids! Mo Willems does it right! With the low word count, snappy humor, and great voice… your kids will love this series (if they don’t already!).

Oh this silly Pigeon loves to cause mischief… but guess what? So does our Elf, Pete! For December 4th, my kids will find Pete driving his own sleigh! That’s right! For this set up, all you need is some candy canes, your elf, and stair case railing. :)

So this isn’t my picture, I had to take this from the internet, because as I was writing this, I realized I don’t have any candy canes! But, this is easy enough! Glue 6 candy canes together, a piece of string for Elf to hold, and tape him to the top of the stair railing! (I’m also going to place the kid’s sleeping bags near him. See below for reason :)

Again, be careful not to place him where the littles might grab him. I plan to make stop signs and place them all around him.

“STOP! PETE IS DRIVING THE SLEIGH!”

And his note:

“Let’s have some fun driving our own sleighs! Hop in your sleeping bags and sliiiiddddeeee! Be safe, and have fun!”

Steps for Day 4:

  1. Set up Elf with candy cane sleigh.

  2. Read Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Sleigh! by Mo Willems

  3. Let your kids get some energy out with a fun activity described below :)

  4. Complete free printables!

As for the activity for your kiddos… Let’s let them drive the “sleigh!” This idea brings some nostalgia for me. Ever use a sleeping bag to slide down the stairs? I remember MANY fun times with neighbor friends, getting into our sleeping bags and zipping down our stair cases.

If you don’t have carpeted staircases, probably not the best idea. Do you have snow? Go sledding! Tell your kiddos they get to pretend to drive the sleigh! Or have them make their own sleigh out of candy canes for their toys. Ask them, who’s going to get to drive the sleigh?!

So a few simple ideas for you, but will bring lots of fun for your kiddos!

And, as always, the free printables below!

A simple coloring sheet for all ages to go with this book. :)

Have a drawing loving kiddo?! Here, they can learn how to draw Pigeon! Get a blank piece of paper and have them follow these easy steps to draw their own pigeon!
