Officially on SUB!
I am super excited announce… I AM ON SUB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, what does that mean?
The short answer… The Lockdown Rule (my 770 word emotional picture book) is officially in the hands of acquiring editors!
But, this is a question I myself once had to ask. I remember when my now good friend, but at the time, just an acquaintance of the twitter writing community first used the phrase— “Going on sub.” And, I, a newbie, was like, “Uh, what?” She so kindly explained as she did so often for me. :) She’s a bright light and I admire her strength, positive attitude, and AMAZING writing. Shout out to Em!
When a writer uses the phrase— “going on sub!” or “I’m on sub!” it simply means their literary agent has sent their completed manuscript and submission package or “proposal” to acquiring editors at publishing houses.
Does this mean that I will have a book deal soon— unfortunately no. But, MAYBE?! Literary agents usually send their clients submission packages in rounds. Round 1 will normally be your top 5-10ish, bigger name publishers that you’d dream to acquire your book. Is it possible they will, absolutely! But we have “rounds” for a reason.
The hardest part will be the waiting. Wait times depending on publishers can be anywhere from a few weeks to a few months (like 4-6!) soooooo it’s not easy. And then there’s the part where everyone needs to say YES. And, I mean everyone! So even if the editor says, “I love it! I’m taking to it my board team/acquisitions!” Then we still need all of them to say yes, then there’s the marketing team, and the financial team (asking will this book makes us money), and probably 5 more teams I don’t even know about that have to approve your book. Ha! Every “yes” is a HUGE win in publishing. I will take any and all I can get, but of course the end goal is to have your book published. I hope one day soon, my agent and I receive that first YES and then the fun really begins…. :)
Can’t wait to share more and when the first YES comes in. Stay tuned!
